Open Gold Walking Expedition Dates & Availability for 2026

We provide two distinct pathways depending on where you currently stand in your Gold DofE journey. All of our late-season open expeditions take place in the classic, rugged terrain of the Lake District (near Keswick).

1. Gold Training & Practice Expeditions

Perfect if you are just starting your Gold journey or need a formal practice run before your final qualifier.

August 2026: Aug 1 (10:30) – Aug 3 (16:00 approx.) Cost: £225

Early October 2026 (Scottish October Break): Oct 11 (10:30) – Oct 13 (16:00 approx.) Cost: £225

Late October 2026 Half Term: Oct 24 (10:30) – Oct 26 (16:00 approx.) Cost: £225

2. Gold Qualifying Expeditions

Ideal for independent candidates who have already had their practice signed off on eDofE and are ready to tackle the ultimate 4-day qualifying challenge. (Note: These dates can also be booked as an Extended Practice option if required).

August 2026: Aug 4 (10:30) – Aug 8 (16:00 approx.) Cost: £375

September 2026: Sept 4 (10:30) – Sept 8 (16:00 approx.) Cost: £375

Mid-October 2026 (Scottish October Break): Oct 14 (10:30) – Oct 18 (16:00 approx.) Cost: £375

Travelling from Scotland or Afar? Camp the Night Before!

We know that travelling down to the Lake District for a 10:30 AM start can mean a stressful, ultra-early morning journey—especially for participants taking advantage of the Scottish October Break.

To make your logistics completely stress-free, we offer the option to camp with us the night before your expedition starts. This allows you to arrive the previous evening, get settled, meet some of the team early and wake up right at the trailhead feeling completely refreshed.

Joining an open team as an individual can feel daunting, but we pride ourselves on going the extra mile to make your experience seamless. We handle the logistical heavy lifting so you can focus on the hills.

Group Kit Included As Standard: We provide high-quality Tents, Stoves, Fuel, Maps, Compasses and Emergency Equipment for every single team. Additional personal kit is also available on request.

Professional Leadership: Every team is guided and supervised by highly qualified, passionate Mountain Leaders and accredited DofE Assessors under our strict safety frameworks.

Inclusive Team Sizes: We form balanced teams of 4 to 7 people (with a minimum requirement of 5 people booked for the expedition to go ahead), ensuring a fantastic team dynamic.

Bursaries Available: We believe the outdoors should be accessible to everyone. We offer bursaries ranging from a 10% to 50% discount for candidates who would otherwise find the cost prohibitive.
